e)mission Code of Ethics
Access2 Carbon Markets, Lda. (Access), which develops and owns the e)mission brand for the delivery of high quality services to promote a lower carbon economy and society, aims to uphold the highest standards in relation to its own conduct and environmental performance, in the work it performs and in relation to the partnerships it builds.
We are committed to:
1. Organisational Integrity
Access and Partners representing e)mission ( e)mission Partners ) in respective markets will operate and demonstrate to be in good standing and in accordance with national laws and fiscal obligations.
Access and e)mission Partners will have their own progressive environmental or sustainability policies, and in particular, will be e)mission neutral organisations. These policies and statements will be publicly available.
Access will work to the highest standards for its e)mission services, and will make publicly available relevant Memberships and Affiliations to Industry Standards Associations.
Each year, the e)mission carbon registry will be subject to an independent Assurance Verification reporting procedure by an internationally recognised body. This will be a part of the Annual Carbon Report to be published yearly and made publicly available.
An independent, non-executive Environmental Steerting Committe (ESC) will be maintained as an advisory body on environmental policy issues and to scrutinise the environmental and social integrity of our activities. The ESC Terms of Service, and composition, will be publicly available.
2. Client Services
e)mission will endeavour to work closely with its clients in order to identify opportunities, plan and implement procedures to make real reductions in their carbon footprint.
In its carbon footprinting work, e)mission will use internationally accepted methodologies, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol of the WRI/WBCSD (World Resources Institute/World Business Council for Sustainable Development), as well as the most credible and pertinent sources of emission factors, such as the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Changes), UK-DEFRA (UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), academic reports, and official, national grid factors.
e)mission will work closely with its clients to communicate their carbon management and/or offsetting achievements in a way which is accurate and simple to understand.
3. Origination of emission reducing projects
Through Access2 Carbon Markets, Lda., e)mission will actively endeavour to work directly with partners in developing countries to promote and support projects which contribute to local sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions reductions, bringing the benefits provided through carbon markets to those communities.
The e)mission portfolio of projects will adhere to the most stringent and reputable international standards, and in accordance with e)mission's quality commitments. These commitments, and quality standards, will be publicly available.
The e)mission portfolio of projects follows the objective of contributing to the rapid transition to a low carbon global economy. We strive to address the fundamental problem - excessive dependence on fossil fuels for our energy needs and inefficient use of energy - and form a part of the solution. We believe this is the most sustainable way to tackle the growing problem of climate change. Our carbon reduction projects are all selected with this aim in mind. We are focused on high quality, innovative ideas going beyond the business-as-usual case, with a strong contribution to sustainable development.
Documentation for projects in e)mission's portfolio will demonstrate consideration of Social Impacts to ensure that the social co-benefits we advocate are real and positive, and provide evidence that the project is in line with relevant local legislation and sustainable development strategies.
This Code of Ethics is determined by the management of Access2 Carbon Markets, Lda. and endorsed by e)mission Partners in their respective markets in which e)mission is represented.
