e)mission news
BIBM – Bank Group of Andorra has finished its carbon accounting for the bank´s activity relative to the previous year. Through this initiative BIBM maintains its commitment to its established goals in quality environmental management and continuous improvement. BIBM´s carbon management strategy was initiated in 2009, with the support of e)mission.
To calculate the 2010 carbon inventory, e)mission conducted an inventory of BIBM’s GHG emissions for the corporate operational boundary established in 2009 using the most rigorous methodologies defined by The Greenhouse Gas Protocol of WBCSD and ISO 14064-1:2006.
BIBM’s carbon footprint for its 2010 corporative activities was calculated at 822.83 tonnes of CO2eq.
This represents a decrease of 2.4 per cent in comparison to 2009, resulting mainly from a reduction in power consumption at BIBM offices and branches. This decrease is in line with BIBM´s commitent to its mititation strategy, which is to lower the environmental impact of its activity, while realizing reductions in operational costs.
BIBM offset its carbon footprint with high quality carbon credits from the e)mission project portfolio. The selected projects which generate carbon emission reductions also provide economic, environmental and social benefits to local communities in developing countries, following the most stringent international criteria, standards and verification procedures.
With sustained action to reduce energy consumption and offsetting 100% of the remaining carbon footprint, BIBM maintains its e)mission neutral certification and continues to lead in corporate responsibility.
