6th UNESCO Conference on Sustainable Development: a low carbon event in Dubrovnik

The conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environmental Systems, held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, was e)mission certified®.

Aware of the climate impact of this event, the organizing committee decided to assume environmental responsibility and in partnership with e)mission, calculated and offset the greenhouse emissions from the organization of this conference.

The carbon footprint study accounted for the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the organization of the event: flights of guest speakers and event organizers, accommodation, local mobility, energy and materials used in the conference. Participants were encouraged to do their bit and, in keeping with the motivation of the conference organization, voluntarily offset the carbon footprint of their flights to and from Dubrovnik.

The carbon footprint of the organization of this event was 26.3 tonnes of CO₂eq.

The offset of this event was achieved by purchasing carbon credits from projects in developing countries, contributing to local sustainability.
