CCE leads by example: Sustainable Events Seminar during Green Festival was e)mission neutral certified®

The Estoril Congress Center (ECC) organized and promoted a seminar and panel about sustainable events, during the Green Festival ’11, Portugal´s largest event dedicated to sustainability issues.

The Seminar featured various international speakers considered experts in the field and who shared their approach, experience and views on relevant trends, and presented some success cases. These speakers included Michael Luehrs (MCI Group and President Elect of GMIC), Andrew Walker (Eco-Efficient Events and GMIC), Jelena Milovic (International Aids Society) and Luisa Coll Hellyer (European Wind Energy Association).

The event was followed by a roundtable dedicated to the theme of “Good Practices in the Portuguese Market”, with a panel of guests from companies such as Siemens, Ativism Group and other experts, including Sérgio Teixeira Santos, director of TerraSystemics and responsible for e)mission.

The carbon footprint of this event was calculated by e)mission at 6.1 tonnes of CO₂eq. This included the following sources of emissions: energy consumption of the venue, water consumed, waste generated, flights, local mobility, accommodation of guest speakers and materials distribution during the event.

The carbon footprint of this Seminar was offset in order to neutralize this event organized by ECC, investing in projects from the e)mission portfolio that generate carbon emission reductions in developing countries.
