e)mission news
António de Azevedo Coutinho, a bussinessman connected to real estate, chose e)mission to measure and compensate the Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GEE) with reference to his residence and air travels, during the year of 2010.
This way, António Coutinho takes enviornmental responsability for the impact of his personal activities on climate and becomes one of the first individuals in Portugal to require e)mission services to compensate personal carbon emissions.
e)mission calculated a carbon footprint of 4.77 tonnes of CO2, equivalent, with reference to the main sources, including natural gas consumption and other fuels, personal travels, electricity consumption, air travel in commercial companies and water consumption.
The offset of all measured emissions will be carried out through carbon reductions acquired through the investment in projects that generate carbon credits under the voluntary market (Voluntary Emission Reductions - VERs) that reduce carbon emissions internationally and contribute to sustainability in developing countries, following the Kyoto Protocol approach.
The methodology to determine carbon footprints used by e)mission uses several elements of well known international strategies such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, developed by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and those developed by Carbon Trust, recognized as a leader in carbon emission reductions for the business sector.
