FirstDrive e)mission neutral is the first rally team in Portugal to accelerate towards “zero emissions” goal

13-01-2011

Modelstand Challenge is the starting point for the e)mission neutral 2011 project

The rally team lead by Bruno Sá, takes on a new challenge for the year 2011 linking car racing to strong environmental responsibility, and gathering efforts to achieve the “zero emissions” goal.

For this purpose e)mission will measure and offset all carbon emissions related to the participation of Bruno Sá’s team in the sporting competitions of the Portuguese 2011 Rally Championship Open. The first participation of the team is expected for the Modelstand league challenge that will begin with the Barcelos Rally, which takes place on the 12th of February.

The pilot Bruno Sá recognizes the differentiating value of this initiative announcing:  “We decided to create a new challenge for our partners through First Drive e)mission neutral 2011 project. This is a project with a unique surrounding of environmental responsibility in national rallies”.

The offset of all measured emissions will be carried out through carbon reductions acquired through the investment in projects that generate carbon credits under the voluntary market (Voluntary Emission Reductions - VERs) that reduce carbon emissions internationally and contribute to sustainability in developing countries, following the Kyoto Protocol approach.

This offset will allow the support of projects from Brazil, Kenya and South Africa. These projects include renewable energy, energy efficiency and waste management.

The methodology to determine carbon footprints used by e)mission uses several elements of well known international strategies such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, developed by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and those developed by Carbon Trust, recognized as a leader in carbon emission reductions for the business sector.
