e)mission news
Bri Restaurant has opened its doors as an emission neutral restaurant. This is the first restaurant from the Balearic Islands that offsets all carbon emissions related to its activity, through e)mission.
To accomplish this goal, the restaurant has developed an active policy of emission reduction that concentrates in several main purposes:
- Invest in energy efficiency
- Reduce the amount of waste that is produced daily
- Recycle the most as possible
Additionally to this active policy of emission reductions, Bri Restaurant has offset all Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GEE) related to its activity during the year 2010, through e)mission.
e)mission has undertaken to measure the carbon footprint of the restaurant taking into account the emissions associated to its energy consumption (electricity and natural gas), use of materials (mainly paper), water consumption, waste production due to its activity and local mobility of the restaurant team.
e)mission calculated the carbon footprint of the Bri Restaurant to be 6.73 tonnes of CO2eq.
The offset of all emissions was carried out through high quality carbon credits (VER – Verified Emission Reductions) originated by projects in the e)mission portfolio that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while contributing to sustainability in developing countries, following the approach of the Kyoto Protocol. This way the Bri Restaurant has been the first restaurant from the Balearic Islands to be awarded the e)mission neutral certification.
